Samantha Mulgrew

Sam, our resident Ayurvedic massage therapist, is available for treatments on Fridays and can also be available at other times on request. Sam trained as a sports massage therapist in 2021 and, following a workshop for AYM realised that the combination of yoga and her experience as a sports massage therapist paved the way to further training in Ayurvedic yoga massage.

Sam works intuitively with clients responding to body breath and energy and encourages clients to communicate how they're feeling so that their massage can be tailored to suit their needs and work together to reduce pain and tension, increase relaxation and find space for profound rest.

The style of each session is adjusted to serve client needs, so sessions can be more or less dynamic, deep, energetic, slow, nurturing and soothing.

In the tradition of Ayurveda, we recognise that it is not only the quality of the soft tissues that we need to work with - our minds and our feelings affect our physical bodies. The aim of AYM is to help the client feel more centred and for energy to flow more freely through the body, working in a way that allows the client to feel relaxed, safe and able to breathe deeply.

We work to relax the tissues around the rib cage, abdomen and pelvis, activate breathing muscles and

promote awareness of the breath in a nurturing space. Then focus on physically softening any tension in the muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia, and on promoting healthy joint mobility through oil massage, passive stretches, tractions and mobilisations as appropriate. This can encourage the nervous system to relax, reduce stress levels, and promote the healthy function of all the body’s systems.
